Spring 2014 Pre-Tournament Rankings, Teams 8 through 6

We are now just 10 days away from the Mill Creek Park Spring 2014 Wiffleball Tournament.  Amazingly, almost 6 months have passed since the Fall 2013 games took place.  A simple tournament, with just 5 teams and 1 field to manage, the first tournament held at Mill Creek Park played out relatively smoothly.  Spring 2014 sees the tournament grow by 3 teams and a second field.  While the larger team pool and additional field to keep an eye on may complicate things a bit, it will only increase the entertainment value for everyone involved.

We first take a look at the teams ranked 8, 7 and 6 going into the Spring fling. With 16 players joining forces to compile 8 teams, each playing 6 games, this Spring 2014 Tournament is really anyone's to win.  Much more difficult to rank then the Fall 2013 field, the Spring 2014 group is deep with talent.  While there always has to be a few teams on the bottom, all 8 of this years teams would rank higher than Bald by Choice, the Fall 2013 squad that went scoreless and winless through the entire tournament.

Coming in at #8 is Turtleheads.  Turtleheads is comprised of cousins and Mill Creek Park newcomers, Greg Crysler and Peter Pabon.  While nothing is known of the skillset of Peter, Greg has displayed the capability to hit the long ball.  That display however, was demonstrated during a casual batting practice session void of curves, sinker and the such.  Since neither player has had any prior game experience that we know of, it is difficult to place them any higher in the pre-tourney rankings.  But that should not allow them to be taken lightly...Fear the unknown!

At #7 we have Pulp Fiction.  Another side with 2 tournament newcomers, Pulp Fiction is made up of Matt Byrnes and Mike Deusinger.  Matt has taken part in 3 Solix WiffleBall League games in the past, and while his numbers won't jump out at you, he has the potential to be a dangerous player.  Mike, on the other hand is another one of those new players that falls into the completely unknown category.  Not much is expected from this pair up against some of the stronger, more experienced teams, but they may be capable of a surprise or two.

Ranking in at #6 is The Man Hammers.  A second pair of newcomers to MCP, Matt Formato and Nick Spindler team up to to join the fray as The Man Hammers. Neither players wiffleballing skills have been confirmed, but tournament co-founder, Joe Gill, has stated, "Look for The Man Hammers to compete for a playoff spot.  Formato can certainly hit and Spindler's athletic prowess should prove vital defensively."  While the praise may be high, having never seen the pair play game, they nailed down the #6 ranking on reputation alone.

So there you have them, the pre-ranked teams #8-6.  These 3 teams may be ranked at the bottom prior to tournament day, but remember, their ranking is based mostly on the little to no sampling of past wiffleball experience.  Either one of these sides can make a serious splash on game day and push for that 4th and final play-off position. Don't count any of them out based solely on this.

Look for the rest of the ranking to be posted in the coming days as we inch closer and closer to game day!
