Spring 2014 Pre-Tourney - The Top 2

Just 2 days to go until tournament day. Today we preview the final two teams taking part in the Spring 2014 Mill Creek Park Wiffleball Tournament and provide them with a pre-tournament ranking.  We have been counting down over the last several days from 8 up.  Finally today, we have the #1 and #2 squads.  Here's how it looks from #8 to #3:

#8 - Turtleheads
#7 - Pulp Fiction
#6 - The Man Hammers
#5 - Benchwarmers
#4 - The Runs
#3 - Iron Pigs

The top 2 teams coming in to the Spring 2014 Mill Creek Park Wiffleball Tournament were probably the easiest to rank. Both sides featured prominently in the Fall 2013 Tournament, going a combined 10-2 and outscoring their opponents by a 38-8 margin in the round-robin, easily booking tickets to the semi-finals.  While ultimately, one team would win and the other lose, these two teams were clearly top class on the day.

So, the #2 team coming into the Spring 2014 Mill Creek Park Wiffleball Tournament is The Murray Men.  Sam DeMarco and Steve Bottieri make up the Men.  Steve was new to the game in that Fall 2013 Tournament but you wouldn't have known it.  He quickly settled himself in, embracing his role as Sam
DeMarco's set up man.  It was Steve who continually struck for timely base hits, so that Sam could drive those RBIs home.  With 23 runs scored on the day, it was DeMarco driving in 21 of them.  It is totally a finesse and power game with this pair. Steve sets them up and Sam knocks them down.  What make them even more dangerous is that they are both solid on the mound as well.  Consistently hitting the strike zone, they are going to make you swing the bat.  The simply don't give you anything for free, you have to work.  They will be looking to improve on last years heart breaking semi-final loss and this spring take that next step towards a championship.

That bring us to the #1 pre-tournament  ranked team, the Fall 2013 MCPWT Champions, The Dewskis.  Comprised of cousins Joe Gill and Sean McNamara, The Dewskis, return for the Spring 2014 games hoping to dominate once again.  The pair put up some serious numbers in the fall, going 7-0 with 30 runs scored, 9
against, 5 shutouts and 11 home runs.  Simply put, Gill and McNamara were unbeatable on their run to the Fall 2013 Championship.  Their 11 home runs were 4 more than the entire rest of the tournament field.  McNamara only allowed 2 runs the entire tournament, and those didn't come until Game 1 of the finals.  Gill, was equally dominant on the mound, leading the day with 21 k's.  Needless to say, The Dewskis had a day that will be extremely difficult to duplicate, especially with the expanded field of teams.  Still, they earned their #1 ranking, and I am sure they plan on keeping it.

That wraps up the pre-tournament rankings for the Spring 2014 Mill Creek Park Wiffleball Tournament. With all that said and done, its now left to the eight teams to either fall in line or lay waste to these ridiculous rankings on tourney day.  In just 2 days we shall see!!
